spring cleaning

Last week I spent a few hours re-discovering portions of my desk by cleaning out a bunch of old papers and reorganizing various files. Such a good feeling to have more space and order restored :).

it feels like forever since I was home to spend time with them.

Coworker Peter recently completed his PhD requirements! WHOOT!

Of course we had to celebrate.

He and his wife spent 9 years specifically working toward this goal.

Last Tuesday we planned a mini break party complete with graduation balloons, a wise veggie owl, smart popcorn, a huge bowl of smarties, and one smart cookie. 

I was in charge of creating the giant smart cookie :).

Transformation

Recently, someone left a bunch of past-due bananas in the break room with a free sign. 

The pleasure's all mine when it comes to transforming a couple of dead bananas into a batch of nutritious muffins.

(I loosely followed this recipe-- decreasing the sugar to 1/3 cup brown, and adding nuts. I also put chocolate chips in part of the batter.)

I'm ready for the final days of winter and pre-spring to be history.

For some reason, this year it feels like frosty windshields and gray skies contrasted with scraggly bare tree branches have way overstayed their welcome (was there ever a welcome?).

So I may or may not have stopped to pick a bouquet of daffodils on my walk home from work today.

-fresh flowers are always a good decision-
