Grove Tea Lounge, Midland

The Grove Tea Lounge is the new place to meet and hang out in Midland.

Not only are you served your own pot of well-steeped specialty tea, the lounge offers a naturally-lit meeting room perfect for catching up with friends over the Christmas season.

birthday brunch

Last Saturday, in honor of my recent palindrome birthday,
Sara came for brunch with Sharon and me.

I am richly blessed with sweet friends.

the Reason

This Christmas season I've been reflecting on the beautiful words Zechariah used to describe the reason for Jesus as recorded in the song he prophesied over his miracle baby John:

Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because he has come and has redeemed his people...
He has raised up a horn of salvation for us...
to rescue us from the hand of our enemies and
to enable us to serve him without fear
in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;
for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
to give his people the knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins,

because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death
to guide our feet into the path of peace.

-excerpts from Luke 1:68-79-

God, in His tender mercy sent Jesus, who provided redemption to broken humanity:
a way to serve God without fear, and the only path of true peace.

elephant cheer

A coworker recently returned from Thailand where she purchased little elephants to bring back to the office. This cute and cheery fellow reminds me of Elmer :).

Groupies in the City

on the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty
Vicky, Heather, and I had lots of fun exploring New York City in the brisk November air. As you already know, these two are good travel buddies :).
Over the course of the weekend, we celebrated Heather's birthday and my five-year work-anniversary. Mostly our celebration included walking: we walked 14 miles the first day, 10 the second day, and 6 the final day!

Introduction to Lady Liberty

The highlight of my recent weekend in New York City was visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island!

Well, that and some incredible bagels :).

the old train station where we boarded the ferry along the New Jersey shore

Ellis Island

there she is!
Lady Liberty actually looked smaller than I anticipated, though she is a large statue.

Niagara Weekend

Not so long ago, Sharon and I drove north through New York, and Amy, Libby, and Naomi drove east through Ontario, and we met up in Niagara Falls, Canada for the weekend. It was Naomi's first trip to Canada. We had a fun weekend. My favorite part was hiking down into the gorge along the river north of the Falls (Niagara Glen).

Garden Goodbye

I spent the end of my morning soaking in some last bits of lovely Autumn weather while putting my "garden" to bed for the winter.

I picked one final little bouquet before pulling out the overgrown zinnia stalks. Remarkably, all the dozens of miniature zinnias I harvested over the past four months grew from four tiny seeds that volunteered this spring from last year's planting!

I took this photo of luscious Mikayla Miranda dahlias last month for Libby to buy some of the same bulbs if she ever has the opportunity.
