It was time.
It was past time.
.for the ivy to leave this Nahumba kitchen.
Sara and I decided to make the ivy disappear last week. We had discussed the need to complete this huge project sometime, and decided we should start when we had a few open days in our schedules before June and July hit (which are shaping up to be extra busy).
I started pulling paper on Tuesday.
We washed and scrubbed and puttied on Wednesday.
On Thursday, I plastered over a messy metal plate and glue gobs near the refrigerator.
(on Friday we were so busy hosting folks in the morning and afternoon we had no time to advance the ivy project)
Saturday afternoon (after spending the morning in town collecting supplies), under the influence of Carl Kasell's final Wait Wait Don't Tell Me episode, NPR's Car Talk, and some classic instrumental praise music... Sara and I painted and painted and painted our kitchen.
(We were so tired by the end of the day that Sara even had to go to bed early!)
Thought you might like a visual of our project progress to date.
Grandma would have liked the peeling part :) oh- and that's the messy wall BEFORE my amateur plaster job... see pic below |
it appeared the paper was holding the wall together behind the stove... |
lovely? |
in progress |
notice all the glue still on the wall under the window |

looking better... |

painting (undercoat) |
wow. reclaim those walls! |
my plaster job (to the right of the outlet) |
we've climbed all over this kitchen... and we will do it again. |
oh yeah. progress = motivation |
The project continues.
Before we can complete it, we need to find paint for the top coat...
Local options are (all high gloss):
lilac
grey
dark brown
creamy yellow
sky blue
What do you vote?
(Now you know why we haven't yet painted the top coat...)
My advice--mix a bit of dark brown with a gallon of white.
ReplyDeleteI would stay away from dark brown, as it might make the kitchen too dark, instead of bright and cheery. Likewise, the gray would need to be a soft lighter shade, imo. All other colors sound good to me, PROVIDED y'all are going to eventually paint the top cabinets to match the bottom ones.:-)

humm...good thing I'm not limited to those 5 colors on my painting days. I like Amy's idea but if you do it measure your brown so you can match additional paint...and maybe complete one wall at a time so that if you start a new can you are not starting with a slightly different color than your cutting in. Can't wait to see the finished project...hang in there girls, you are almost to the best part.
