The red part (under the overhang) that looks a bit like bricks is actually lines of post boxes. Inside the building (to the left) is where I buy stamps and pick the occasional package from home(!).
To purchase stamps or pick a package, it usually takes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes or more.
The queue is usually wild (long and sometimes pushy) at the post office, because it's a Western Union hub. That's a queue you don't want to be part of.
There are technically different counters for different services (ex: stamps = counter #3), but there are usually only a couple counters open, so it can be an adventure finding someone to help in any department other than money transfers!
Sometimes it takes some months, sometimes just some weeks. Seems to come in spurts. Betsy's theory is that they collect it until there's a pile, and then send it all across the ocean on the same ship... based on our experience, this is one of the most believable theories I've heard :).
and how long is the typcial que?
ReplyDeletewell... to check the box, there's never a queue.

Does your mail actually get to you?
ReplyDeletewell, I guess we don't know if it doesn't!
